Is today's international financial environment really friendly? And who is the Agricultural Bank of China?
In 2015, at the end of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which had been in place since 2000, the United Nations went on to set out new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the period up to 2030. These include 17 development goals in various areas. Yet today's environment is full of opportunities and challenges. The "post-epidemic era", the "Russo-Ukrainian war", local unrest and so on. As a major financial institution, how is the banking sector responding to the SDGs and what role is it playing in this complex international context? This article takes a look at the Agricultural Bank of China as the subject of this study. Why? Who is ABC? The Agricultural Bank of China is a significant listed bank in China and one of the four biggest banks in China; founded in 1951, (Cheng, 2009) it was the first state-owned commercial bank in New China and a vital component of the Chinese financial system, with its headquarters in Beijing.
